U*Us interested in clergy misconduct issues should try to attend this seminar as the Andover Newton Theological School next week. I only found out about it today. If I had known earlier I might have headed down there myself. . .

Here's a seminar to help clergy meet the ethical challenges of congregational life and ministerial practice: Ethics and Abuse In The Ministerial Relationship, Jan. 8-12, 2007, M-F 8:30 am to 12:30 pm sponsored annually by UU Students at ANTS. An ethical analysis of both competence and abuse in the ministerial relationship, the program is designed to help clergy and lay leaders identify unethical or potentially abusive conduct and to encourage ethical, competent ministries. A must for ministerial candidates, interns and newly settled ministers. To register contact the seminar's leader, the Rev. Deborah J. Pope-Lance, by email RevDPL@earthlink.net. Deborah, both a community minister and a licensed therapist, maintains a private therapy practice in the Boston area and provides coaching and support to clergy in challenging ministries, often in the aftermath of predecessors' misconduct. She is co-author of a recent Alban Institute book, When A Congregation is Betrayed: Responding to Clergy Misconduct.
